Barbecue the Way It Should Be Done!

Took the bike out last Sunday for a very windy ride from Houston to Lockhart, Texas.  Lockhart is about 30 miles southwest of Austin, Texas.

Great big blue sky without a single cloud, but the wind from the north was very strong.  At times we felt we were riding sideways while still going straight.

Our destination was Smitty's Barbecue - Lockhart has 3 of the top 5 barbecue joints in Texas as rated by Texas Monthly magazine http://www.texasmonthly.com/.  Smitty's was featured on the Travel Channel when Samantha Brown visited Austin during her show on quick weekend getaways.  We grabbed a pound of lean brisket and then joined the 100 or so other diners in the community dining room for really good barbecue.  When we were done we grabbed another pound to take home.  I heartily recommend Smitty's anytime you are in the area - and even if you're not - it's a great place to ride to on a Sunday.

2010 San Antonio Blessing of the Bikes

New Years Day we rode to the San Antonio Blessing of the Bikes - Held each year on January 1, all riders and their bike receive the blessing of safe rides for the year.

We are taking the bike out to San Antonio again this weekend.  The weather has been cold for South Texas but the skies are blue and the roads are dry.

Happy Holidays

Kind of cold and damp here on the Texas Gulf Coast, but we are still out on the roads almost every weekend. 

The area actually got snow this year - second time in two years and only the 40th time since the late 1800's.  Quite a big deal as we have zero equipment to handle snow and lots of drivers that think they now what they are doing behine the wheel. 

Looking forward to the New Year and wishing the best to everyone.  2009 is almost over and 2010 has got to be better year.  Happy New Year!

Texas Honor Ride 2009

The ride home from San Antonio was a little wet, but the weekend was definitely worth it.  The Texas Honor Ride - 600 bikes with 850 participants rode from Houston to San Antonio's Brook Army Medical Center to honor our wounded military service men and women.  The group raised $86,000 during this years fundraiser - matching the 2008 contribution. Not to bad considering the economy.

The weather forcast for this weekend is sunny and warm and the bike is ready for The Texas Honor ride. Meet everyone early Saturday morning for the ride to San Antonio to support our wounded troops.
